- Military Pathways Releases Public Service Announcement Lightening the Load
In the fall of 2012, Military Pathways released a new video public service announcement, Lightening the Load. The PSA, which will run in 15-, 30- and 60-second spots, features a pair of actors (one a retired U.S. Marine) simulating a man returning from a deployment and his wife. As he unpacks typical items from his duffel bag, such as clothing and dog tags, words float out of the bag naming common mental health disorders such as PTSD, depression and alcohol abuse.
The PSA will be distributed to more than 800 television stations nationwide and public affairs officers across the country. To access The First Step to Healing screening website visit: www.StepToHealing.org.

- Family Resiliency Kits Will Ship to Installations Worldwide in January, 2013
If you work with military families, you are familiar with the unique challenges they face and the incredible resiliency they possess. Separation, relocation, family role shifts and the anticipated risks and dangers that come with deployments are some of the things that make military life challenging. To help military families cope with these challenges Military Pathways, a Department of Defense-funded initiative, will again be providing its Family Resiliency Program free of charge.
The program’s family resiliency materials include a broad array of resources. The resources address the emotional and psychological needs of military families by helping them to recognize the symptoms of common mental health issues, cope with the challenges of military life, build resiliency, and know where to go if they need help. The materials are perfect for family readiness groups, chaplains, Yellow Ribbon events or any other group that works to reach out to military families with the messages of resiliency and hope.

- Military Pathways Gears Up For National Alcohol Screening Day® on April 11, 2013
Alcohol use in the military, especially among young men, is much higher than it is in the civilian population and it continues to climb. Although there are safe levels of alcohol use, for too many service members, alcohol use can lead to problems with their health, relationships or career.
Military Pathways offers an expansive collection of materials for military sites to recognize National Alcohol Screening Day (NASD) on Thursday, April 11, and April as Alcohol Awareness Month among your members. Educate your members and their families about alcohol use and abuse with this program, that includes the newly designed DrinkingIQ.org water bottles.
We will be opening registration for NASD materials in January, 2013.
